WE ARE OUTLAWS:
The Leeds Suffragette Story
December 2018 marked the centenary of the first General Election in which some women could vote for the very first time - we were lucky enough to present We Are Outlaws, a piece celebrating the women of Leeds who were part of the Suffragette Movement. Thank you to all those who were able to join us on the 14th December 2018!
‘We women are outside the constitution. We are outlaws.’
1913.
A woman from Leeds, Leonora Cohen, enters the Tower of London.
Concealed under her coat, an iron bar.
She reaches the Jewel House, summons all her strength.
And smashes a glass showcase in the name of Women’s Suffrage.
Friday 14th December 2018
The Civic Hall, Leeds
